Rivian is now HelloFresh's official EV partner in the US
HelloFresh has partnered with Rivian to deploy 70 EVs across 14 US markets, reducing 200 tonnes of carbon emissions and saving 20,000 gallons of gasoline

HelloFresh has achieved a significant environmental milestone through its partnership with American electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian.

The meal kit delivery giant has successfully reduced carbon emissions by more than 200 tonnes since integrating Rivian's Commercial Vans into its delivery fleet.

This partnership represents a major step in HelloFresh's sustainability journey and positions the company as Rivian's first major fleet customer since the automaker opened its commercial van sales to the public earlier this year.

The initiative has seen 70 all-electric Rivian commercial vans added to HelloFresh's delivery network, featuring branding from the company's Factor division.

"Fresh prepared food is one of the fastest growing grocery segments and Factor leads the market with healthy, convenient, high-quality, ready-to-eat meals," says Nunzio Di Savino, VP, US Logistics for HelloFresh.

"We're taking this opportunity to showcase Factor's dedication to sustainability through impactful branding, including our delivery fleet."

The environmental impact of Hello Fresh and Rivian’s partnership

The partnership marks a significant shift in HelloFresh's delivery capabilities, with nearly a quarter of its fleet now electric.

Since implementation, the Rivian vans have covered more than 250,000 miles and saved an estimated 20,000 gallons of gasoline.

The resulting 200-tonne reduction in CO₂ emissions is equivalent to the carbon sequestered by 300 acres of US forest.

This electrification initiative complements HelloFresh's existing route optimisation strategy, which reduces transit distances between distribution centres and customers.

These shorter journeys enable HelloFresh to use less packaging material, with each delivery box seeing a 6-10% reduction in packaging weight from reduced insulation and fewer ice packs.

Food waste has also decreased thanks to quicker delivery times.

"Finding sustainable solutions is one of our core values, including ensuring that our operations run as efficiently and cleanly as possible,” Nunzio says.

“By adding the Rivian Commercial Van into our fleet, not only have we cut our CO₂ emissions, but we also play our role in helping to clean the air in the cities in which we operate."

How Hello Fresh’s new EVs will be rolled out

HelloFresh has strategically positioned its transit hubs near major urban centres across 14 markets.

This placement is particularly advantageous for electric vehicles, which eliminate the emissions typically generated by conventional vehicles during stop-and-go city driving.

"We're delighted that HelloFresh has joined us on our mission to cut emissions and protect our environment,” says Tom Solomon, VP, B2B Growth & Business Development at Rivian.

“HelloFresh delivers to millions of customers in the US, so by adding more electric vehicles to its fleet, it has not only helped reduce their carbon output, but has improved air quality in cities across the US.

“We're looking forward to working with Ryder to help HelloFresh achieve their climate goals."

The details of Rivian’s commercial offerings

The Rivian Commercial Van offers more than environmental benefits, with safety features including automatic emergency braking, collision warnings and 360-degree visibility.

Rivian's proprietary software powers the fleet management system, enhancing operational efficiency and reducing overall ownership costs.

To support this electric transition, HelloFresh has partnered with Ryder's RyderElectric+ solution for advisory, leasing and maintenance services.

This collaboration facilitates HelloFresh's progress toward its sustainability objectives while navigating the complexities of electric fleet management.
