Orange and La Poste are committed to adopting more responsible and sustainable practices
To promote sustainable technology practices, Orange and La Poste are repurposing networking equipment used during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

Orange and La Poste aim to extend the lifespan of network equipment put to use throughout the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

These efforts fall in line with the sustainability goals of both corporations, which seek to reduce the environmental impact of digital technology.

A focus in the Paris 2024 legacy includes repurposing valuable equipment for various future applications and sites.

“The Olympic Games Paris 2024 have been a unique opportunity to showcase our technical expertise and a true demonstration of the solutions offered to our business clients. I am proud that this top-quality equipment finds a second life with La Poste,” says Aliette Mousnier-Lompré, CEO of Orange Business.

“This partnership illustrates our commitment to a sustainable and connected future. At Orange Business, we are dedicated to helping our clients and partners in their environmental transition and reducing their carbon footprint.”

Revitalising telecom resources

This partnership is part of a large-scale approach to repurposing equipment from the Games.

The plan includes reusing several thousands of WiFi terminals along with other state-of-the-art telecom gadgets.

La Poste plans to deploy these at crucial locations across Paris and within community spaces.

The Maison de l’Innovation in Nantes will host more than 800 IT professionals from La Poste and utilise this next-generation equipment.

Despite their brief, but important, use during the Games, these devices have undergone comprehensive checks to ensure they meet stringent standards of performance, availability and durability.

The devices should significantly enhance network operational efficiency for La Poste employees, offering superior connectivity and service standards both indoors and outdoors.

Integrating these state-of-the-art tools also supports the digitalisation of various operations, enabling streamlined management of IT tools within La Poste’s framework.

Prioritising sustainable operations

Orange and La Poste not only align technologically but also in their eco-friendly aspirations, sharing a mutual commitment towards a more responsible, sustainable future.

The reuse of these powerful telecom tools is an active step towards circularity, reducing the unnecessary manufacturing of new devices and subsequently reducing the carbon footprint associated with production.

Both enterprises aim to achieve net zero by 2040 and have adopted numerous responsible practices.

Orange also offers eco-designed and refurbished network products to both consumer and business customers.

La Poste's mission includes advocating for ethical, inclusive and resource-efficient digital practices.

This means prolonging the service life of IT equipment through meticulous repair and reuse strategies.

“In the face of scarce resources and the increasing digitalisation of services, La Poste Group is committed to reducing the environmental footprint of its tools and applications,” says Philippe Bajou, Secretary General of the La Poste Group and President of La Poste Group Immobilier.
